Man stabbed to death near UC Riverside campus

RIVERSIDE, Calif. Riverside police arrived to the scene shortly after 1 a.m. to find the 54-year-old victim with serious stab wounds on the 3900 block of Iowa Avenue.

The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers arrested a 40-year-old transient on suspicion of the murder less than two blocks away.

Richard Lockhart, 40, was arrested at University Avenue and Cranford Avenue, detectives said.

Police have not commented on a motive for the killing.
