'Hats for Haiti' week raises $350,000

LOS ANGELES School children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles have helped raise the money and includes an anonymous donation of $100,000.

Students paid $1 or more to wear hats in class, which are usually not allowed.

Similar events have been held across the world as youngsters reach out to children in the quake ravaged country.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles says the amount collected is the most ever gathered by the Holy Childhood Association in the United States.

Cardinal Roger Mahony said local children saw the news stories and responded with love and concern for children suffering in Haiti.
