5 supergraphics removed amid legal battle

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.

The battle over supergraphics has been raging for years. Last week, an L.A. businessman was jailed on $1 million bail for hanging an enormous movie ad on a building he owns on Hollywood Boulevard near the Kodak Theatre.

City law prohibits the installation of supergraphics, saying the enormous signs distract drivers and could fall and injure people if they're not properly installed. Critics also say they simply do not look good on the streets.
