LOS ANGELES Although, the Gaviñas are based in Southern California, their family roots can be traced back to their homeland Cuba.

"We were born in Cuba. Back in Cuba they started roasting coffee in the 1930s and growing coffee in the 1870s," said co-owner Pedro Gaviña. "We grew up in the coffee business. I remember my good days were going to the coffee plantation during the holidays for the harvest of the coffee. "

Today, their coffee company roasts millions of pounds of beans yearly, including providing coffee for the biggest fast-food chain in the nation, McDonald's, where Gaviña played a key role in revolutionizing coffee sales with the debut of the "McCafe".
