Condo fire kills elderly woman in Torrance

TORRANCE, Calif. Authorities said the /*fire*/ started at about 2:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Paseo de la Playa. The fire caused extensive damage to at least two units in the building.

Residents were evacuated, and firefighters rescued at least one cat from one of the condos. Crews managed to douse the flames in about 20 minutes.

The unit where the victim was found was gutted by the fire.

The cause of the fire in under investigation.
