John Wayne Airport earns international wings

COSTA MESA, Calif. The first international flight in the history of the airport arrived Thursday evening. Air Canada's inaugural flight from Toronto to Orange County land shortly after 8 p.m.

The same plane will take off on a return flight to Toronto Friday morning at 8 a.m. Air Canada is using a 120-seat Airbus A319 for the flight.

Airport officials say construction on two international gates is expected to be completed next year. In the meantime, some domestic gates will be modified to screen international passengers.
