ONTARIO, Calif. --
The City of Ontario is adding the words "in God we trust" to its logo. The city council voted unanimously Tuesday night to put the words in a semicircle, above the city seal in council chambers. Councilman Alan Wapner, who crafted the motion says he is not concerned about possible lawsuits, because "in God we trust" became the motto for the United States when it was approved by congress in 1956.
The phrase also appears on United States coins and currency.
The change to the Ontario city seal will cost $375. It will be paid by donations from residents.
