BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. --
In a traditional Indian ceremony, the groom, Rohit Mehta of Los Angeles, and his bride, Payai Sharma, rode an elephant to their nuptials at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Saturday.Transporting the couple up the hotel's main driveway was Tai, a 41-year-old Asian elephant who weighs in at a svelte 8,800 pounds.
Wedding guests and visitors were impressed, to say the least.
It was part of a Hindu ritual known as the Baraat, where a groom travels by elephant to his bride's village, fan fared by drummers and musicians.
It was certainly the wedding of the year at the Beverly Wilshire.
