LOS ANGELES --
Former Lakewood football star Jerry Stone and a co-defendant were each sentenced Wednesday to six years and four months in state prison for shooting at rival gang members last year.Stone, who was 17 at the time, was driving a car in rival gang territory Aug. 21, 2009, when his passenger, Lawrence Steven Blake, 32, opened fire on two rival gang members.
The gang members were standing in front of a house in the 1100 block of South Acacia Avenue in Compton. No one was injured.
Stone and Blake pleaded no contest to shooting from a motor vehicle and admitted the gang allegation.
Initially, Stone was charged as a juvenile, but prosecutors re-filed the case after a judge found Stone could be tried as an adult.
