Google to give all employees 10 pct raises

NEW YORK The internet search company is giving workers a $1,000 bonus--tax free. On top of that, employees are getting raises of at least 10 percent.

The company is trying to prevent some of its workforce from defecting to /*Facebook*/ and other rivals.

/*Google*/ has long been known for feeding its workers free food and pampering them with other perquisites.

But the company began taking away some of the goodies in late 2008 and early 2009. It went so far as to lay off a few hundred people to help boost its earnings.

Google is doing better this year, though. Revenue rose 23 percent to $21 billion through the first nine months of 2010.

The company added 3,500 workers this year.
