Caretaker sentenced for stealing from clients

SANTA ANA, Calif. Shandie Marie Lacsamana Rosete, 34, was accused of stealing more than $100,000 by writing checks to herself from her clients' accounts.

Rosete worked as a caretaker from January 2004 to December 2007 for a nonprofit organization called Project Independence in /*Orange County*/.

At that time, she was responsible for managing her clients' money by helping them pay their bills and make deposits. She wrote 652 checks to herself from the accounts of 14 of her clients without them knowing.

Authorities started their investigation after a relative of one of the clients complained to Project Independence that someone was stealing from his relative.

A restitution hearing is set for June 3, 2011 to determine if Rosete will have to pay back more than $102,000.
