VENTURA, Calif. --
A Ventura police officer was injured Friday night during a violent confrontation with a man who was threatening people on the street. Officials said they received calls that Gerardo Mendez, 19, was threatening people in the downtown area.
When officers tried to arrest Mendez, he resisted and became violent. He landed on top of a police officer's leg.
Mendez was eventually arrested, and the officer was taken to the hospital with severe leg injury, according to the Ventura Police Department.
