According to officials, on Nov. 6, 2006, Cerna suffocated and murdered his wife, Gabriella Herrera. He dumped her body on the side of the 60 Freeway in Los Angeles County.
After dumping the body, Cerna went to work that morning at a car dealership in Buena Park.
Herrera's two young children, who are from previous relationships, realized their mother was gone when they woke up. Family members reported Herrera missing, and the children were sent to stay with their biological fathers.
Herrera's body was found four days later after police received an anonymous tip, but her body wasn't identified until several weeks later through fingerprint records.
Cerna was arrested in July 2007 for the murder.
