LOS ANGELES --
Customs officials at Los Angeles International Airport made an unusual bust on Thursday, seizing two decorative reindeer made from grass material. The owner, a passenger from El Salvador, apparently lacked the proper certification to bring them into the U.S. agricultural inspectors also found that the grass and seeds showed possible signs of disease.
"CBP enforces hundreds of laws including all USDA regulations. Our agriculture specialists protect America's agriculture by using their scientific expertise to prevent the introduction of harmful pests and plant diseases," said Carlos Martel of Customs and Border Protection in a statement.
