Liability cap may rise for train crash victims

CHATSWORTH, Calif.

Rep. Elton Gallegly of Simi Valley has introduced legislation that would raise the liability cap for victims of passenger rail accidents from $200 million to $275 million.

While he said that may not be enough to cover damages, a previous bill raising the cap to $500 million failed.

The crash killed 25 people and injured more than 130 when the Metrolink train ran a red light and slammed into a freight train.
