The fire broke out at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. The neighbors didn't wait for firefighters. Instead, they searched the burning apartment and found a 5-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy.
The children were not breathing, but when firefighters arrived, they were able to revive them.
The 5-year-old suffered some burns and was listed in serious but stable condition. The 2-year-old was also listed in serious but stable condition.
Their mother had only minor injuries.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
