A neighbor near East Rosewood Court called police after looking through a window and seeing what she thought was a woman lying on the floor shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday.
Investigators found the bodies of a 42-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son. They were both declared dead at the scene.
Police believe the woman beat her son to death using a hammer, and then took anti-depressant pills and slit her own throat with a knife.
Authorities also said the incident appeared to have been planned but a motive remained unclear.
The identities of the mother and son were not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.
