Nicotine found to be more hazardous for diabetics

Smoking is bad for your health, but research shows that it could do more damage if you have diabetes.

In lab experiments, researchers found that nicotine raises blood sugar levels.

Higher blood sugar levels can increase complications from diabetes.

The findings suggest that even diabetic smokers who are trying to kick the habit could be at risk, because many smokers use nicotine replacement products to quit.

Experts also cautioned that more research is needed.
