Apparently there's a scientific reason why potato chips and french fries taste so good when you're stressed out.

A new study from the Journal of Neuroscience suggests that elevated levels of salt in the body lower stress hormones and raise levels of a particular hormone that's involved in love and other social connections.

Bartenders are known to put out salty treats to create thirsty clients. But scientists say that salt also helps to calm patrons who are anxious about being in a bar's social atmosphere.
