Gator bites bumper of Fla. police squad car

GAINESVILLE, Fla.

Deputies had been called to a Gainesville home to corral the gator, but the gator, didn't back down. Instead, he chomped onto the bumper.

Deputies put the car into reverse and tried to slowly back up. A trapper finally managed to corral the gator.

The unhappy reptile caused about $2,000 in damage to the squad car.

A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman said the alligator was put down under the state's nuisance gator policy. Under that policy, the trapper is allowed to keep meat and hide from the gator.
