Summer fashion: What's in, out for women

LOS ANGELES

First up, thigh-high mini-skirts are out. Jane Loddo of Harper's Bazaar recommends switching things up with an ankle-length skirt, which happens to be flattering to most body types.

"It's all about the maxi skirt," said Loddo. "It's full-length. It's a great summer look."

"I love it, I actually really like this skirt a lot," said Salesha from LA Models, who twirled around in a graphic print maxi skirt provided by Piazza Sempione.

What's also out this season are faux fur and zebra prints, also known as "tribal looks." They're just too heavy for the warm weather, according to Loddo.

Instead, fashion savvy women should look out for a bright, tropical-colored print dress like the ultra-attractive dress worn by Holly from LA Models. From Hale Bob, the aqua blue, green and gold print dress hits just above the knee, and is accented with ruching details and a v-neck collar.

"It's a v-neck print dress, that very va-va-voom moment," said Loddo, "It's a great occasion dress for that summer wedding, that summer party."

This season, the 1990s look is also out. Say goodbye to menswear-inspired clothing, especially the all black color palettes.

Harper's said this summer designers are having their 1970s moment.

"Look for jumpsuits, wide-leg pants, lots of bright colors and prints," said Loddo.

Lauren from LA Models wore a perfect nod to the era - a fun, pink and black one-piece, hooded jumpsuit from DVF.

An easy way to update your summer look is to ban the matte-lipstick and instead go for a dazzling lip gloss.

"For summer it's about sheer, it's about shine, it's about Chanel - the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine, which comes in 18 colors from basic beiges to dazzling berries," said Loddo.

Make sure your summer accessories have a pop of color too. A turquoise and gold ring and pendant necklace set, like the one provided by Carlo Viani, is definitely in.

"You have the ring, centered with a cushion cut of turquoise for that bold splash of color. Looks great with all the summer runway trends," said Loddo.

One final, and very important tip from the fashionistas at Harper's Bazaar, remember it's not about trying to completely overhaul your wardrobe. Pick up just one or two of the hot-trends mentioned, and your summer look will still be fashionable and fantastic!
