Part of OC road shut from oil spill may reopen

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.

Southbound Goldenwest Street between Ellis and Garfield avenues is closed, but one southbound lane may reopen sometime Monday.

Nearly 805 gallons of crude oil bubbled up from a break in an underground pipeline on Friday. Firefighters built sand berms around the spill to keep it from spreading.

Beach-bound traffic was being detoured onto nearby streets.

The pipe is expected be fixed by the end of the day on Tuesday, but it was unknown how long it would take to finish the spill cleanup and road repair.

The owner of the pipeline, Crimson Pipeline, is paying for the cleanup and to fix the pipe.
