The shooting happened outside a party near St. Charles Place and Venice Boulevard.
Police said a man walking by got into an argument with someone at the party. Investigators said the passerby left and then returned with a gun and shot someone in the leg.
Several people at the party fought back, taking away the man's gun and then shooting him in the head and torso.
It's unknown if any arrests were made. The incident remains under investigation.
