Oxnard police officers found a 55-year-old woman dead inside her apartment at the location. A family member of the victim was concerned and requested police meet them at the home Sunday around 10:30 p.m. to check on the woman.
With a key in hand, police went inside and found the victim's body.
Detectives did not release much information about the victim. They believe she was murdered but did not say how or why.
"The officers who went out to the scene determined that it was a homicide and they notified the homicide detectives, who went out to the scene," said Oxnard Police spokesperson Monica Munoz. "The specific details about how she died we are not releasing at this point just because it's so early in the investigation. We do have some information that we're following up."
Police did not release the victim's identity.
