Lopez was honored for helping San Fernando Elementary School by sponsoring an annual Christmas toy give-away and pitching in when budget cuts threatened school programs.
Tuesday, the school dedicated the George Lopez Auditorium, which Lopez said has special meaning to his life.
"In this auditorium, a long, long time ago, was the first time that I ever heard somebody say you could be whatever you wanted to be if you worked hard and you stayed in school and stayed determined," Lopez said.
Lopez pledged continued support for San Fernando Elementary School and he urged students to remember him every time they enter the auditorium.
