The chase ended on Victoria Avenue near Hemlock Street in Oxnard.
Police said the suspect stopped and opened fire at officers. At least one bullet struck a patrol car. No officers were hurt.
Authorities shot the suspect. He sustained at least one gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
Oxnard police and the Ventura County Sheriff's Department were involved in the pursuit.
An official with the Oxnard Police Department said the incident stemmed from a domestic violence call.
