Demi Moore's publicist maintains it was exhaustion brought on by stress. Others are saying it could have something to do with her failed marriage - the 49-year-old is in the middle of a divorce from 33-year-old Ashton Kutcher.
She has appeared very thin in recent photos. The website Radar Online is reporting that Moore is receiving treatment for anorexia, while TMZ is reporting that Moore is also seeking treatment for substance abuse.
The stories were fodder for conversation on Wednesday's episode of "The View."
"This is what happens when you have eating disorders," co-host Joy Behar said on the show.
"Well we don't know. First of all, this has not been totally confirmed by anybody, this is Radar Online," co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck responded.
Moore's publicist stood by a statement released on Tuesday.
"She looks forward to getting well and is grateful for the support of her family and friends. We have no information beyond our statement," Carrie Gordon said in a statement.
On the streets of Hollywood, few had sympathy for Moore.
"I reckon she's exhausted from the fact that she probably constantly worried he would leave her anyway because she's so old," said one woman.
Moore's publicist has not revealed where she is receiving treatment.
