Freight train derails, disrupts Metrolink Commerce commute

COMMERCE, Calif.

Nine cars of that freight train, which originated in Chicago, went off the tracks at the Commerce train yard on Thursday at about 10:30 p.m. at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Yard. There were no passengers, and no one was hurt.

Metrolink trains from Orange County to Los Angeles are still running, but the accident is keeping them from stopping in Commerce until everything is repaired.

The affected trains are 603, 605, 607 and 685.

Bus service will be provided for passengers who catch the train in Commerce.

(Note: An earlier headline for this story erroneously identified the derailed train as a "Metrolink freight train." The train is part of BNSF Railway. We apologize for the error.)
