Suspect arrested for running Escondido cockfight

ESCONDIDO, Calif.

Officers arrived at the scene of the initial stages of a cockfight, according to police. Most spectators and bettors fled as officers arrived, said police.

Martin Flores Padron, 39, admitted to hosting the cockfight, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty, cockfighting and being in the U.S. illegally.

San Diego Humane Society personnel took about 50 roosters from the property.

Padron was held on $40,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning.
