Wilmington violence addressed at town hall meeting

WILMINGTON, LOS ANGELES

Seven people have been killed in Wilmington so far this year. Just last weekend, two teenagers were shot to death while walking down the street.

At the Thursday meeting, police told residents they've assigned more officers to the area and are working hard to deal with gang violence. However, residents say they're still concerned.

"It's dangerous now because you can't go out by yourself because you never know what's going to happen," said Wilmington resident Sandra Hernandez.

Councilman Joe Buscaino said he is fighting for a larger permanent police presence in Wilmington.
