Romaine lettuce recalled by California company due to possible salmonella

LOS ANGELES

Pacific International Marketing in Salinas is pulling 19 cases of bulk romaine lettuce sold at Vons and Pavilions stores in California and Nevada. The recall comes after a field test showed the presence of salmonella.

The lettuce heads are banded with a red twist tie marked "Safeway." The produce was sold between July 2 and July 4 and had a code of 12EASROM182. No bagged or carton lettuce was affected.

Consumers were advised to discard the products or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. No illnesses have been reported so far.
