Melissa Bernal, 28, and Aniya Mitchell, 7, were killed in the crash. Authorities say the two were not related. Two others, a man and a woman, were transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.
Investigators said a driver lost control of his car, careened across three lanes of traffic, struck a light pole and then slammed into a bus stop, where four people were waiting for the bus.
The incident happened near Magnolia Avenue and Tyler Street Friday afternoon.
Police say the driver, a 45-year-old Riverside man, did not appear to be under the influence. The incident remains under investigation.
