Oscars 2013: Finishing touches under way

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES

Crews have worked around the clock to transform Hollywood Boulevard for the hottest night in movies. The protective white tarp has been freshly peeled off the iconic red carpet, the velvet ropes have been put in place and nearly all the decorations are ready to go.

Producers behind the big show say the audience can look forward to something new and fun - they promise it will be jam-packed with plenty of excitement.

"This show is bigger and has more in it, more entertainment unequivocally, than anything I've seen in recent years on the Oscars," said Don Mischer, director of the Oscar telecast.

The red carpet theme this year will showcase costume designers, so expect to see something new visually. Show officials say everything is on schedule, but as with any large event, they're prepared for any unexpected surprises.
