AAA says rising consumer confidence mean more people are planning trips, but they also warn that road construction is at its high peak in Southern California.
But that's not enough to dissuade folks from hitting the road. More than 1.93 million travelers are expected to drive. AAA says that's up 6.2 percent from last year.
Southern California is where most of the travelers will be starting out. About 2.44 million Southland residents have plans to take a trip at least 50 miles from home this weekend.
But even though more folks will be enjoying Labor Day trips away from home, they're still not pulling out all the stops. The Auto Club says Californians and other West Coast residents are projected to spend an average of $622 on their Labor Day trips. That's well below the national average of $804.
According to AAA, the top two most popular Labor Day spots for Southern Californians are San Diego and Las Vegas.
