George Zimmerman arrested after disturbance

APOPKA, Fla.

Deputies say George Zimmerman's girlfriend accused him of pointing a shotgun at her during an argument at the home they shared in Florida.

Seminole County Sheriff's officials arrested Zimmerman around 1 p.m. ET. Zimmerman was charged with aggravated assault, battery and criminal mischief after the dispute. He was transported and booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.

Lemma says no one was hurt, and no one else was at the home when deputies arrived.

Deputies say Zimmerman had barricaded himself inside by wedging furniture against the door before officers arrived. His girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, was outside the home and gave deputies a key to get inside.

Lemma says once deputies got inside, Zimmerman did not resist and was not armed. He says investigators hope to search the home for any weapons.

The news comes two months after Zimmerman was detained following a domestic incident in Lake Mary, Fla., involving his wife and his father-in-law. Prosecutors did not file any charges against either of the parties involved due to lack of evidence.

The dispute took place days after his estranged wife, Shellie, filed for divorce.

A jury acquitted the former neighborhood watch volunteer in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin in July.

The 17-year-old was killed Feb. 26 during a confrontation with Zimmerman in a gated community in Sanford, Fla. The shooting led to protests across the nation and spurred a debate about race and the laws of self-defense.
