San Bernardino fatal home-invasion robbery: Man arrested

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.

On Jan. 19, 84-year-old Lorna Gable called 911 to report that an unknown man was in her home on the 900 block of 40th Street. Detectives say when the suspect realized the woman was awake, he began to beat her, causing severe injuries to her upper body.

The suspect then assaulted Gable's husband and took off with an unknown amount of cash, a 1935 Colt .22 caliber handgun and other items, according to investigators.

Gable died the following month from her injuries. The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department said that after months of investigation and releasing a suspect sketch, detectives identified Freddie Weston of San Bernardino as the suspect.

Weston was arrested on Wednesday and booked for murder and residential robbery.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to contact detectives at (909) 387-3589.
