Big Sur wildfire scorches 769 acres, 20 percent contained

BIG SUR, Calif.

Fire crews are expected to get some help from the weather, with calm winds and a 20 percent chance of rain at night.

The blaze, which erupted Sunday, is moving slowly through dry vegetation in the Los Padres National Forest near state Highway 1. It has destroyed 22 buildings, including 14 homes.

Containment is expected by late Friday, fire officials said. No injuries have been reported.

More than 800 firefighters are on scene. Flames were a little more than a mile from Ventana Inn and Spa, a favorite spot among celebrities.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.
