Tournament of Roses crowns 2016 Rose Queen

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- The Tournament of Roses has crowned the 2016 Rose Queen.

Erika Winter was named the 98th Rose Queen by the Tournament of Roses on Thursday. The 17-year-old girl and her six princesses will ride in the 127th Rose Parade on New Year's Day.

Erika, a senior at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Canada Flintridge, was selected from more than 900 contestants in the Pasadena area.

Her six princesses include Sarah Shaklan, Rachelle Liu, Bryce Bakewell, Regina Pullens, Natalie Hernandez-Barber and Donaly Marquez.

The Rose Court will make up to 100 personal appearances before the parade and Erika will be in attendance for the 102nd Rose Bowl Game.
