HAWTHORNE, Calif. (KABC) -- Detectives are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy in Hawthorne on Wednesday.
Officers responded to a home in the 11700 block of Doty Avenue at about 5 p.m.
During the investigation, officers learned the child's mother, a 15-year-old high school student, returned home from school and found the boy unresponsive. The teen's adoptive mother had been caring for the boy at the time.
The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officials said there were no visible signs of trauma on the boy's body. His cause of death has not yet been determined.
Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were assisting the Hawthorne Police Department in their investigation.
