SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif. (KABC) -- At least 11 people were injured early Wednesday morning in a crash involving a Metro bus in South El Monte.

The collision was reported just after 6 a.m. near Rosemead Boulevard and Klingerman Street, just outside the 168 Ace Lumber & Supply business.

According to a statement from Metro, the driver of the bus was heading northbound on Line 266, which was being operated by contractor Southland Transit on behalf of L.A. Metro, when the crash occurred. AIR7 was above the scene after the collision and showed the Metro bus crashed into a truck carrying lumber.

"Metro extends its sympathies to those injured and thanks the LA County Sheriff's Department, the San Gabriel Police Department, the El Monte Police Department and the LA County Fire Department for their quick response in assisting everyone," said Metro in the statement. "The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is leading the investigation into what caused the accident."

The Los Angeles County Fire Department said one person was listed in critical condition. The rest suffered minor to moderate injuries. The fire department initially said there were 12 patients but later revised that number. The condition of the bus driver remains unknown.

L.A. County Chair Pro Tem and Metro Board Director Hilda Solis also issued a statement, saying she's "deeply saddened by the distressful events" surrounding the crahsh.

"I will continue to monitor this situation, and stand committed to the continued safety and well-being of our bus drivers, and passengers," she said.

The crash remains under investigation.
