Brush fire erupts along 91 Freeway in Corona

CORONA, Calif. (KABC) -- A brush fire burning along the 91 Freeway in Corona forced the closure of eastbound lanes Wednesday afternoon. Three lanes of the eastbound 91 remained closed from Coal Canyon after a full eastbound closure at the start of the fire fight. Two lanes and the 241 Toll Road reopened at about 1:40 p.m.

The fire was reported at about 1 p.m. near Green River Road and had burned about 39 acres by 3:15 p.m. The fire was 25-30 percent contained, according to the Orange County Fire Authority and the California Highway Patrol. Forward progress of the fire was stopped.

One-hundred firefighters from Anaheim, Corona, US Forest Service, Cal Fire and OCFA fire departments were working on dousing the blaze.

Affected lanes of the 91 were expected to remain closed throughout the night. The northbound 241 to the eastbound 91 connector was open.
