VENICE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Agents raided a spiritual organization in Venice, founded by former actor Andrew Keegan, and it was all over kombucha tea.

Keegan, known for roles in "10 Things I Hate About You" and "7th Heaven," is one of the leaders of a spiritual organization called Full Circle Venice. It was recently profiled by Dan Harris on "Nightline."

"We have a creed. We do believe that everything is an expression of the creator, and that we, coming together, create our own destiny, our own path," Keegan told Harris.

Last Friday, Full Circle Venice was hosting a fundraising event inside the temple. A vendor was selling a fermented tea called Kombucha Dog when the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control showed up unannounced.

"I was working the front door, and all of a sudden out of the blue, five agents stormed through, intimidated everyone in the room, and did not announce themselves, busted in the building," said Amelia Swaggert of Full Circle Venice.

Kombucha often contains less than 1 percent alcohol, but state officials say it was being sold without a proper permit, so that vendor was cited.

"It was definitely shocking to see something like that happen at a fundraising event, especially when it's a sober, spiritual community center," Swaggert said.

Full Circle Venice says it's now focused on hosting a benefit concert on Sunday -- all about social justice.

"This is something we focus all of our energy on, is putting community healing events on and doing things that are really making a difference here in Venice," Swaggert said.

State officials say the vendor was cited, but not the organization.
