Rattlesnake season: Tips to stay safe

One Southland hiker got a painful reminder that rattlesnake season is here.He's recovering Thursday morning after he was bitten in Riverside County.

Here are some helpful tips from Animal Control authorities.

Rattlesnakes don't like heat. Watch for them early in the morning or in late afternoon, near hillside or canyon homes.

When walking or gardening, avoid heavy brush, and watch where you put your hands.

If you're hiking, wear closed toed boots or shoes, and keep an eye out for snakes.
