Nursing study shows positive results

LOS ANGELES Scientists followed up on tests with the kids in the study, and by age six, they found the breastfed group averaged about six points higher in IQ. However, doctors performing the IQ tests knew ahead of time which children were breastfed, which is a potential source of bias.

When independently tested the difference in IQ points was only three.

Still, doctors say breastfeeding can boost immunity and reduce the allergy risk in children, which are both good reasons to breastfeed for the first year.
