LOS ANGELES JR's Genuine Barbeque in Culver City has been popular since it opened ten years ago.

"I think it's our food. It has to be. They know good food, and we got it," said Jeanie Jackson from JR's Barbeque.

For a first time visitor, Jackson recommends the combination plate of ribs and brisket.

"[It's] authentic Memphis style barbecue. We're talking baby back ribs, pulled pork, hot links, mac-n-cheese, collard greens, and the hot sauce... fiery hot," said Citysearch editor Tara de Lis.

For BBQ Tyler, Texas style, head to Dr. Hogly Wogly's Tyler Texas Bar-B-Que in Van Nuys.

"As one Citysearch reader said, you can move this place to a roadside stand in the middle of west Texas, it would still be packed. It's that good. The brisket is unbelievably authentic," said de Lis.

Cindy Keller from Dr. Hogly Wogly's says the busiest day is Saturday. They don't take reservations, so it's first come, first serve.

By the beach, there's Baby Blues Bar-B-Q.

"You know, a great little find. North Carolina style on a Venice street corner on Lincoln. Very popular Citysearch favorite. Delicious. Specializes in pulled pork and baby back ribs," said de Lis.

"It smokes for about sixteen to eighteen hours. We put a dry rub on it. We marinate it overnight then we slow smoke it. And that's great, it falls right off the bone," said Danny Fischer from Baby Blues Bar-B-Q.

For a do it yourself barbecue of marinated short ribs, head to Tahoe BBQ in Koreatown.

"They get addicted to it. So once they come in, that's it. Once a customer, forever a customer," said Richard Hwang from Tahoe BBQ.

Be prepared to wait for a table during the weekend, but reservations can be made for parties over eight.

"One Citysearch tip I would give you though is that it can get a little smoky, so don't dress up too nicely, and if you can, request a table on the patio which is gorgeous. There's a waterfall, and it's a little more open," said de Lis.

Rounding out the Citysearch top 7 barbecue restaurants are Woody's Bar-B-Que, Phillips Bar-B-Que, and Gus's Barbecue.

In Orange County, try Lucille's Smokehouse BBQ.

In the Inland Empire, head to Redhill BBQ in Rancho Cucamonga.

And in Ventura County, visit the Thousand Oaks Meat Locker.
