His vehicle, a 2002 bronze GMC Safari van with the California license plate 6CBY663, was located in Pomona by local law enforcement. It was unoccupied and recovered by the Sheriff's department personnel.

Canales is the father of the four children.

A tape was released Monday of a 911 call made by the 9-year-old daughter of the victim. Baca spokesman Steve Whitmore described the tape as "so horrendous it made a couple of the homicide detectives cry."

The detectives described the killing as the worst they had ever seen, Whitmore said.

"Help, my dad just stabbed my mom ... with a sword. He's leaving right now. Please hurry," the girl was heard saying on the tape.

Canales may have a pistol and should be considered armed and dangerous, deputies said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts was urged to call homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500.
