Report shows lower ACT average scores

The number of students taking the test, however, jumped nine percent.

The numbers also show more than three out of four test takers will likely need remedial help in at least one subject to succeed in college.

The ACT's creators say given the increase in students taking the test, its good news that average scores didn't drop more and claims the number of students actually ready for college level work is rising.
