REVIEW: 'Valkyrie'

Rated: PG-13 (Violence, and brief strong language.)

'Valkyrie' is the true story about a group of German army colonels who were led by Claus von Stauffenberg in an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler; an event that would later be called the July 20 Plot of 1944.

'Valkyrie' is one of those stories where you know that this plot didn't work out.

But ultimately what is amazing about the film is just how successful this attempted coup was.

We know Hitler eventually killed himself, and the Nazis lost. What isn't so well known is the story of the German underground movement. It's quite amazing to see the movement all unfold on screen.

I usually don't care for Tom Cruise, but he does some of his best work ever on this film. He's very good.

Director Bryan Singer (of 'X-men' and 'Superman Returns' fame) does an incredible job of telling a very complicated caper tale.

That's exactly what this film is, you get the problem that needs to be solved (Kill Hitler), and the plan to solve that problem. Simple in theory, but so much more complicated.

3 buckets.
