2 arrested in kidnapping, ATM robbery

EL MONTE, Calif. Police said the victim was at the mall on Dec. 20 when one of the suspects dropped a shopping bag that contained a gold chain. He then disappeared, but the victim was approached by the second suspect, who asked if she wanted to sell the gold chain and split the profit.

When the victim refused, the woman allegedly pulled out a knife and forced the victim to get into an SUV. The suspect drove the victim to her home to get her bank card. They then drove to an ATM in San Gabriel. The victim was surprised because the suspect knew where she lived. Police say the suspect may have been following the victim.

A photo of the suspect was caught on the Bank of America ATM camera.

Police said the victim withdrew about $400 from her account and handed the cash to the suspect. The victim was eventually dropped off at home unhurt.

Police believe the female suspect is responsible for at least three other robberies in Los Angeles and Orange County.

Eyewitness News Reporters Subha Ravindhran and Robert Holguin contributed to this report.
