Ventura County soldier killed in Afghanistan

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. 26-year-old Frankie Toner was killed in an enemy shooting Friday in Afghanistan.

Toner was Westlake High School graduate and a Merchant Marine Academy football star. The soldier was scheduled to return home next Wednesday on leave.

"He was coming home to be with his wife, and he was really looking forward to that," said Toner's aunt, Linda Moosekian. "So now he's coming home on a different day, and will never have to go back."

Lieutenant Toner was the fifth military person from Ventura County to be killed in Afghanistan.

The enemy fighter posed as an Afghan soldier, and also killed 35-year-old lieutenant Florence Choe of El Cajon before taking his own life.
